Some students ask to skip the written test in the final exam due to the gaps caused by Dad and the stress it would create: but this is precisely what helps to become adults
The charge is a petition to the Minister of Education for remove the last written exam from the 2022 state exam of which the Italian one has not already been announced, promised and guaranteed that it will not appear. On Tomorrow yesterday (the fate of every tomorrow is to turn into a yesterday …) Mattia Ferraresi sadly illustrates the Italian in which the appeal is formulated: “The weakness of the manifesto … is not in the quality of the arguments, but in the ungrammatical poverty with which these are presented. “
Here is a sample: We graduating students ask for theelimination of written tests in the 2022 baccalaureate exams, since we find it unfair and fruitless to go to take written exams as they are pleonastic, the curricular professors in the past five years have had the opportunity to touch and test our skills.
Instead of the first comma, there would be a colon, or perhaps a period. But the second comma has a touch of absurdity that would suggest a joke. However, unlike the excellent Mattia Ferraresi, he is on the “quality of the arguments“That I would like to focus on. Here they are.
Whatever they may be, the appellants say, “our abilities” are known to those examiners who have also been our teachers in past years. What is the purpose of written exams then? But that “writings” is a non sequitur: clearly the question should have been: “what use are exams if our abilities have already been ascertained to the bitter end?”
Well, the answer would be that since the exams are of the State and not an Institute scrutiny, some component external to the school attended by the candidates must be present on the Commission (in my time there was only one representative of the Institute, the famous “Internal member.” Now it is the opposite: only one “external”.) And the Commission has to examine the examination performances and not the past ones, even if these are largely taken into account in the determination of the score.
The appeal would ultimately be based on the implicit thesis of the uselessness of the state exam: “Pleonastic” too. But even from this more ambitious thesis, the fall of the Italian writing does not follow.
Perhaps it can be assumed that the unwarranted aversion to writings is due to their feared effect of blurring the otherwise clearly delineated and positive picture of “our abilities”. But what are these “capabilities” like? Well, the appellants recall that “we spent third and fourth years in Dad, penalizing ourselves, destroying part of our bases that should have been used for the exams ”, and I’m not here wondering what the subject of those two gerunds is.
Therefore, the preparation was affected by Dad, but, even here, it is not clear why, after examinations, the Commissions cannot take into account any gaps found. The appellants perhaps realize that there is no specific reason for doing without the writing in their appeal, and they try the following card: “the added stress of written exams would run against a fruitful oral one indispensable as a first step towards adulthood. ”
Now used to the horror, I will ignore that incredible “row against”. But of course also the oral ones could constitute a stress, and the ability to withstand the stress of the written (and possibly that of the oral) could indeed be a first step towards adulthood.
