Matrix: The Awakeningthe free tech demo created with theUnreal Engine 5 for PS5 and Xbox Series X | S has exceeded 6 million downloads within approximately two months of launch.
The confirmation came from the Unreal Engine Twitter account which, in addition to celebrating 6 million downloads on the flagship consoles of Sony and Microsoft, reveals that at the moment players have created over 1 million metahumans thanks to the special editor. Just think, if they all lived in one city this would be the 11th most populous in the United States.
Having exceeded 6 million downloads is a remarkable and not at all obvious milestone, especially if we consider that currently the installed base of PS5 and Xbox Series X | S is limited by the semiconductor crisis.
Matrix: Awakening is one free tech demo developed for PS5 and Xbox Series X | S to show the muscles of the Unreal Engine 5 and offer a taste of the results obtainable on consoles using the graphics engine of Epic Games. This experience was created in collaboration with the original film crew, including director Lana Wachowski, with the participation of Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss as digital Neo and Trinity.
The tech demo is basically divided into three parts, an introductory part with the two actors, an adrenaline-pumping scripted chase sequence and finally an exploratory phase in which players can roam freely around the city.
