An exhibition in Matera celebrates the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Pier Paolo Pasolini
“A refined exhibition of art and photography and a rich calendar of cultural events in a simply UNIQUE location: the Motta hypogea”. That’s what they write Marina Sonzini And Edward Of Women creator and curator of the Pasolini event. Event supported by Circolo La Scaletta which for decades has been promoting and organizing art exhibitions in the city of the Sassi.
The core of the exhibition – inauguration on June 1, 2022 at 19 and closing on July 5, 2022– was conceived as a parallel path: on the one hand the artistic investigation into the meaning of the sacred Pasolini performs as a filmmaker landing at the “cinema poetry” and turning to Matera in 1964 the most consistent part of the The Gospel according to Matthewon the other hand, the analogous path of the photographer Danilo Mauro Malatesta who in 2017 created his first ambrotype of a sacred subject, the Glass Syndromeexhibited at Museum of the Shroud of Turinand then snaps De Second Pietatethe Mystical Scheggie and the Sacred Atelier.
Around this central nucleus of works (Pasolini in Matera is told through the historical, iconic photographs by Domenico Notarangelo, which still today travel the world thanks to the passions of his children), extends “the part of the exhibition that tells the man Pasolini and intellectual in constant research “. So the works hyper-realistic from David Parenti in a cycle named Pasolini: For Pure Passion and the drawings of Francesco Tonarini who, after the portraits of the Roman exhibition, created 20 plates with the title specifically for Matera My Pasolini through which “he tells the whole artistic and human story of this giant of Italian culture”.
The Motta hypogeawhich inside keep intact the millstone of a mill and a millstone, therefore become the symbolic place where to tell the parable of the Gospel according to Matthew: that of a Christ made man, who gives humanity the body and blood of his sacrifice. The exhibition starts from the story of Pasolini’s Christ and his Jerusalem among the Sassi districts, to arrive at the modern vision of Malatesta who after the Shroud – the last tangible sign of Jesus’ earthly passage – shows him risen, carrying a woman in his arms, representing at the same time his Mother and humanity, to whom “he hands over his deepest Gospel: that of love and forgiveness”.
Prestigious guests such as the Spanish director will take part in accompanying visitors on this journey into the Pasolini world Miguel Angel Barroso with the documentary “Pier Paolo” which retraces the places of the poet’s life; the essayist Georgios Katsantonisthe journalist Simona Zecchi whose two books Massacre of a poet And The broken investigation they investigated the mysteries behind Pisolini’s murder; the historian of cinema Piero Spilla who edited the volume All Pasolinia lecture by the writer Nicola Fergiulo on the social Christ of Pasolini, the director Enzo De Camillis with the docu-film An intellectual in the Borgata, Davide Grieco with the documentary dedicated to Mimì Notarangelo Soul thief and with his film Machination.
