Commemoration of October 7th at the Synagogue of Rome, Meloni’s words
Green light to commemoration of October 7th in memory in memory of victims of the massacre accomplished by Hamas against the communities of southern Israel. The ceremony opened by observing a minute’s silence and with a prayer recited by the chief rabbi of Rome, Riccardo Di Segni. Di Segni expressed “gratitude to the Italian government which protects us with every means. What happened on 7 October is the expression of a blind and senseless hatred which often leaves us alone”, he said, adding that often “the international community uses two weights and two measures”. In Synagogue the prime minister has arrived Giorgia Meloni to take part in the commemorative ceremony one year after the terrorist attack. The area of the ghetto that winds around the Tempio Maggiore was armored.
“On October 7, 2023, the Israeli people experienced one of most dramatic pages of its history. Let’s not forget the inhumane attack perpetrated a year ago by Hamas. We always have before our eyes the massacre of thousands of defenseless civilians, including women and children, and the contempt of their bodies, shown to the world without any mercy. Our thoughts are constantly turned to the hostages, torn from their families and loved ones, and who are still waiting to return home today”, said the Prime Minister on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Hamas attacks against the Israeli population.
“Remembering and strongly condemning what happened a year ago is not a mere ritual, but the prerequisite for every political action we must carry out to restore peace in the Middle East, because the reticence that is increasingly encountered in doing so betrays a latent and rampant anti-Semitism that must worry everyonethe. And the public demonstrations of recent days have, unfortunately, confirmed this.”
