Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergic and Infectious Diseases of the United States, said wearing protective masks would be necessary even if there was a vaccine against the new coronavirus, writes NYT.
“I believe that even with a vaccine, some of the public health measures will remain in place for a tangible amount of time,” Fauci said.
According to him, the gradual abandonment of protective measures can begin not earlier than “the third or fourth quarter of next year.”
“I believe that masks should be worn everywhere. It is good if we can achieve this at the level of local authorities, mayors, state governors. If this fails, we should consider introducing a mask regime at the national level, ”he added.
Previously honored doctor of Russia, pulmonologist Alexander Karabinenko said that people who have had COVID-19 and refuse to wear masks pose a serious danger to others. The doctor explained that the coronavirus remains in the upper respiratory tract even after illness, so everyone must wear personal protective equipment.
