The collaboration between Maserati and Bosch has created a small but significant record. The MC20 model is in fact the first in the world to have 100% of the monitored screwsthanks to the use of the system Bosch Rexroth. The technology company is Maserati’s partner in the development of the Industry 4.0 production line of the MC20, at the historic headquarters of the Casa del Tridente in Modena.
The MC20 production line is an example of a connected industry: the data generated on-line in the various processing stations and from the various operations are collected, stored and analyzed. Bosch Rexroth operator stations equipped with NEXO wireless screwdrivers they have responded to this need for connectivity and transparency of production; NEXO is equipped with an integrated controller through which it is possible to check the tightening operations throughout the production process. From an Industry 4.0 perspective, it can store and send all data and tightening curves via the wireless connection.
The system is flexible: it can be used at multilevel, for example in manual mode through which the operator can choose the program or activity to be performed using the integrated keypad or barcode reader. In automatic mode, on the other hand, it is the station controller that transmits the program or activity to be performed to the screwdriver. The assembly station, equipped with NEXO, is equipped with a software guide system for the operator. This solution provides a step-by-step visual representation of the assembly instructions, thus helping operators in the various sequences and preventing any errors and defects. Guided Pipe System provides step-by-step instructions for selecting the right component: required bolts, correct bush or insert, exact tightening position, torque design, tightening tool, program and sequence of work correct. In the event that the operator’s view on the monitor is obstructed, such as when working inside the bodywork, the display can support the activity by directly showing the necessary information on the screwdriver.
A total of 63 stations with NEXO screwdrivers were installed on the Maserati MC20 line, 8 in the motor line and 55 in the assembly line, all perfectly integrated into the production software. This means that processes and machine statuses can be viewed at any time, meaning fewer errors and fewer omissions during the production process. The guided piping system also reduces the amount of rework, prevents delays and minimizes any assembly defects, improving the quality of the output.
The collaboration between Bosch and Maserati it goes beyond production processes and continues on board the car. Bosch provides, in fact, an electronic engine control unit (ECU), electric power steering with belt transmission (EPSapa) and 8 ultrasonic sensors positioned on the front and rear bumpers of the vehicle, which support the driver during parking maneuvers.
