Before being put on sale and then delivered to customers, every car must carry out a great deal of road testing, to verify that everything is in order and to fine-tune the software. To understand, for those less knowledgeable, the cars during official testing are the ones that appear with a often unwatchable colored bodywork, so as not to reveal the lines before the official launch.
When does Maserati Grecale come out?
As we know it is getting closer and closer the release of the Maserati Grecale, with tests and inspections to decide the final configuration are becoming more and more intense. It is in one of these road test that the accident happened while the Grecale was driven by a Maserati test driver with all the instruments dedicated to the acquisition of dynamic data.
The accident concerns the new Maserati Grecale which was supposed to be released on November 16, but its launch was postponed to spring. The world presentation is in fact postponed to spring 2022. The official motivation released by Maserati is the issues related to the procurement of parts and components such as chips of which Grecale obviously makes extensive use.
Maserati Grecale accident at the roundabout, how did it happen?
What happened? TO Turin a Grecale was involved in an accident in roundabout from Poland Square in front ofRegina Margherita Hospital. Leaving the roundabout, the test driver he lost control of the Maserati and went to hitting a large pole, taking it from the front. As he declares Ettore Dezza the head of Sports Car Segment Maserati
“The test driver was busy checking the diagnostics and data acquisition on board the Grecale: certain situations in city traffic, such as braking, acceleration, stop & go, are used to collect information on how that model works”.
Maserati prototype Grecale accident, damage
La Grecale took the pole on the front of the vehicle so ofconsuming most of the components that are in that position. Between the radiator, bumper, bodywork and engine, the most worrying component is the chassis. In this case, it is not a real prototype, so they are not unique “pieces”. therefore there is no danger of having lost valuable components. But thanks to this unfortunate fact Maserati can see how its chassis has behaved.
A Maserati MC20 in the incindent
The Maserati Grecale involved in the accident was followed by its sister Supersport MC20, which was behind the SUV on the city streets. This test, as Dezza explains, had the purpose
“being repetitive missions, with repeated elements such as the type and duration of the journey, it is not uncommon for carousels to form, which make it possible to obtain comparable data sets under the same conditions through a transversal reading of how the experience is been captured in data from each model ”.
Road tests and prototype trials before the official launch
Although the Modenese house, being the flagship brand of Stellantis, benefits from all the technologies ofInnovation Lab, he always prefers to do “real” tests. The virtual and the 3D help the car in the initial development, but to launch the project the prototype must complete real KM on asphalt, real. Starting from the track, where all the high-speed tests are carried out safely to check all the components of the car.
Only then is the prototype sent to the street, which is not the case, since it is already a model of a “production line”, therefore without the problem of losing information. In addition, some cars are also tested for employees who, behaving as normal consumers, will test their reliability by reporting any anomalies.
