A few hours after the official debut of Maserati Grecalethe long-awaited SUV of the Trident which will be a very important piece for the relaunch strategy of the Italian car manufacturer, one of the prototypes of the Folgore version, a full electric version of the high-wheeled model, has been spotted. The battery-powered variant of Grecale was pinched in some spy photos released online while engaged in a series of tests in the snow, one of the usual phases of development of high-performance cars and in particular of electric cars in order to test the performance of the battery in the coldest temperatures.
In the images released on the web by Carscoop you can see an example of Maserati Grecale Folgore covered by the camouflage wrapping typical of forklifts, with the car that is similar to its endothermic twin even if some substantial differences can be seen, starting from the absence of the rear exhausts, in addition to the covered air intakes. Unlike other EVs, however, where the grille with the grille are closed by virtue of the fact that the flow of air to the engine is not necessary, in this case the slots are open. Even the covers suggest it is the Folgore version as they are the same ones used on the full electric variant of the Maserati GranTurismo, spotted just a few days ago.
At the rear you can see an increased protection, an element designed specifically to ensure better protection of the battery. Maserati Grecale Folgore will in fact be born on a platform that is not native electric but will be based on theGiorgio architecture, the same as Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio, specially modified to support an electric powertrain. No information has yet been released regarding the power levels but it is known that Grecale Folgore will integrate 800 V technology that will allow charging at fast infrastructures. An obligatory choice to allow this declination to be able to compete on the market with future German models, including Porsche Macan EV, Audi Q6 e-tron but also Mercedes EQC and BMW iX3. Next to the electric version there will always be the endothermic one that should be equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine and a turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit.
