Maserati today announced the steps in the electrification process of the range that will bring the Trident house to boast a fully electric line-up by 2025. Three more years then, and all the models offered by the brand will be available with at least one battery-powered version only. The first of these models will be the new Gran Turismowhich will therefore be the first car of the Trident to take the name Folgore, which Maserati will attribute to all 100% electric models: in announcing its strategy, the company has also revealed the first details of this model.
It will be a 100% electric berlinetta, which will be produced at the Mirafiori production center and that will debut on the market in 2023. The Trident carmaker spared itself from stating the specs of its EV icon, simply stating that “It will offer cutting-edge technical solutions derived from Formula E, outstanding performance, comfort and elegance typical of the Trident”. All features that presumably will unite the models that will be part of the electric line-up announced by Maserati, which will also expand in 2023 with two other models: let’s talk about the Levante SUV and GT GranCabrio. The Folgore range will then be completed in the following two years, with the debut of the electric versions of the super sports MC20, the new sport sedan Quattroporte and the new full-size SUV Levante.
AND Ghibli? Maserati did not mention what future will be reserved for this highly successful model, which in the year just ended accounted for a third of the Trident’s global sales. Everything therefore suggests that the company has in mind of cancel his hatchback hatchback from the future Folgore range, even if production end dates in this sense have not yet been issued. What is certain is that Maserati never mentioned Ghibli in its electrification strategy announced today, which means that currently the model is not in the least in the Trident’s plans for the future.
