Double Q2 for the Gresini team
Both Marc and Alex Marquez put in the safe direct access to Q2 in the Japanese GP Practice, a precious result because rain is forecast tomorrow at Motegi. The two Gresini team riders often excel in wet conditions, Marc particularly, but not having to challenge other rain specialists in a Q1 that only offers two ‘passes’ for Q2 is certainly an excellent starting point. Marc Marquez even finished in second place, very close to Brad Binder, even though he had a difficult Friday in terms of feeling on the bike. Eighth time trial for Alex Marquez. Below are their statements.
Marc Marquez: “I took a bit of a risk on the last lap. I changed the bike several times today, I didn’t feel comfortable, but in the last two outings we did well. A few too many problems, one with the brake. It remains to be understood how to make the most of the new tyre. Regarding the race, we are working to understand which compound will be the best.”
Alex Marquez: “I’m happy to be back in Q2, even if we’re still missing something in terms of setup. We need a few more kilometers in the dry. We need to improve our race pace and if it rains, it will be an opportunity to exploit.”
