Winner of the last race held in Austin, Marc Marquez arrived at Misano with a positive energy which, however, had a setback in the second free practice session, due to an error that prevented him from completing a good lap and to get in the top 10 at the end of the first day of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Sunday’s race is expected to be dry, and the fact that Friday’s free practice took place with rain and a wet track can turn into something isolated. Marquez, who finished in 14th position a second and a half behind the leader Jack Miller, explains: “This day can be unique, because on Saturday the weather seems to be better, but it may also rain. Let’s see what conditions we will find in FP3, which is almost like a qualifying because many fast riders could be left out. This afternoon things did not go as we hoped, we did not take advantage of the situation ”.
“In the morning we went well and finished seconds – continues Marquez – but in the afternoon we were unable to make things go well to complete a good lap. The balance is not good, because we are not in the top ten. They say the race will be dry on Sunday, but it starts with the starting position on the grid, and this is decided on Saturday. Starting from the first three rows makes things a lot easier ”.
One of the news of the day is certainly the announcement of the FIM, which starting from 2023 will raise the minimum age limit for racing in the World Championship to 18: “It’s a good thing that this limit is changed, I think it’s a good time to do that, you needed a similar decision with everything that has happened this year. It was announced for 2023 and is a major change. You have to change all the access steps and you can’t have riders for a lot of time in promotion categories, that’s why it’s not done in 2022 ”.
Specifically, Marquez made his debut in the world championship when he was only 15, beating all records of precocity: “I started very young, but everyone is different. In general, I believe it is a right decision, mistakes are not the same when you are 15 or when you are 18. I am happy with this news. It is also right to extend the careers of many drivers who arrived at the world championship at a very young age and who lost their way when they were young. We need to keep this scale to get to the world championship, but raising the age “.
