The Catalan wears red
“You have to be selfish”. Marc Marquez he didn’t mince words in commenting on the decisive overtaking he managed to make over Jorge Martin and he didn’t talk about the track, at least not in the literal sense. Jorge Martin, after four years as a Pramac rider, in 2025 finally felt like he had his dream bike, the all-red Ducati of the official team. Marc Marquez in less than one Sprint, in seven races, has definitively convinced Luigi Dall’Igna to choose him and not his compatriot to complete the Factory team in the next two years.
“I am in Ducati thanks to Gigi Dall’Igna – declared Marc Marquez guest of the broadcast ‘El Larguero‘ of the Spanish broadcaster Cadena Ser – I don’t know what they said to Martin, I know what they said to me. Why didn’t I accept the prospect of becoming an official driver only if I won this year? For three reasons. The first is why right now we are not fighting on equal terms. The second is because I wouldn’t have left a satellite team to join another customer team. The third is because I couldn’t tell my sponsors that the decisions on my future would come in November-December.”
“In the end, the decisive factor on which Ducati based its choice it was the track“, added Marc Marquez, underlining that the technicians of the Borgo Panigale company can verify the data of all the riders and evidently Marc Marquez’s telemetry has resolved any kind of reservations. When asked how much difference there might be between the Ducati GP24s of Bagnaia and Martin and the GP23 that Marquez has, he replied as follows: “Usually from one year to the next you improve by two tenths per lapwhich at the end of the race is four seconds, but it’s all very relative.”
