Another podium
In Motegi for Marc Marquez has arrived fourth podium in the last five races. The Spanish champion repeated the third place obtained yesterday in the Sprint, but this time winning the duel with Enea Bastianini, who came fourth behind him. To the microphones of Sky Sports MotoGP the star of the Gresini team analyzed the challenge – today experienced more ‘at a distance’ – with the Beast, which Marquez feared could ‘snatching’ the lowest step of the podium.
“I managed the confrontation with Bastianini by pushing to the maximum – said #93 after the race – in the last part of the race Enea is always very strong and I kept repeating myself ‘this one now arrives and gets on the podium’. But I was 100% focused on not making mistakes and I think we had a good race, even if not perfect. In the first 2-3 laps Miller defended himself well and I lost a lot of time, so when I moved up to third Bagnaia and Martin were already gone. I had something to take them on, especially with the soft rear with which I felt at the top”he added.
Between heart and work
Marquez then admitted that he had experienced a particular Japanese trip from an emotional point of view, given that this was his first Motegi GP – since racing in MotoGP – not as a Honda rider: “Wednesday and Thursday there was a bit of a strange feeling – he admitted – because with Honda there is a professional and also personal relationship. But now I fight and work only for Ducati and this will be the goal for the next two years. After 10 years the relationship still remains, it was strange”.
Finally, the eight-time Spanish champion also spoke about his own physical conditions: “If you ask a doctor what happens when you operate on your arm four times, they tell you that you lose performance – said Marquez – but we worked and I work every day to be at my best level after injuries. I don’t have the physique of 2019, but it remains acceptable and allows me to ride well. I have fun, I try to help Ducati and give 100%. I wanted to win a race this year and I succeeded, now I’m looking for consistency that will give me confidence for next year”he concluded.
