Marmolada in irreversible coma, the largest glacier in the Dolomites will disappear
Gloomy forecast for the white cap of the Marmolada: by 2040 (Rpt 2040), according to scientists, the largest glacier in the Dolomites will disappear. It is now losing 7 to 10 centimetres of thickness per day, in the last 5 years it has seen 70 hectares of its surface disappear (equal to 98 football fields), and since the beginning of scientific measurements, in 1888, it has retreated by 1,200 metres, and with an increase in the altitude of the front of 3,500 metres (Not ‘altitude’). It is a response of “irreversible coma” that of the Caravan of the glacierscampaign of Legambiente, Cipra and the scientific partnership of the Glaciological Committee.
