The Mexico City Grand Prix allowed a Max Verstappen to obtain the ninth win of the season ahead of Lewis Hamilton, with the English now 19 points behind the first place in the championship standings occupied by the Dutch. In addition to this, the conquest of the lowest step of the podium of Sergio Perez, and the simultaneous arrival outside the points area of Valtteri Bottas, have meant that the Red Bull significantly recovered ground against Mercedes also as regards the fight for the constructors’ title. Now, on the eve of the fourth to last round in Brazil, the two teams are separated by a single point.
With the exception of qualifying, the weekend in Central America could not have ended in the best way for the Austrian team, more focused on Interlagos’ next goal than celebrating their victory in Mexico. A feeling confirmed by the words of the Youth Program Manager Helmut Marko, who expressed his opinion on the tender just filed with: “I feel relaxed – confessed to Servus TV – we have increased our lead in the championship standings, but now we have to win in Brazil also next Sunday. At that point, I’ll be even more relaxed ”.
Limited to the Mexican test, Marko underlined the departure carried out by Verstappen, able to jump to the command of the group with a detached outside that started the escape to success: “Max’s late braking it is unprecedented – he has declared – today was incredible.
