The invasion of Russian forces in Ukraine triggered a harsh international reaction against the invading country, which is increasingly isolated and sanctioned even in the world of sport. Specifically, as regards the single Formula 1, the FIA has opted for the official decision of do not exclude the pilots of Russian and Belarusian nationality from the world 2022 – with the sole exception of the GP of Great Britain – with these who will participate equally as neutral and under the flag of the same Federation. A sentence that has found agreement with several members of the Circus, including the Head of the Red Bull Junior Team Helmut Marko.
The Austrian manager, interviewed by RTLis therefore in favor of the permanence of Nikita Mazepin in the 2022 world championship, the latter being the only Russian rider present on the starting grid. A choice, that of the FIA, very similar to that implemented in the world of tennis, which has not expelled the current number 1 Daniil Medvedev from his competitions. However, Marko therefore wishes Mazepin’s business to continue smoothly, as long as a particular condition occurs in Haas: “If Mazepin can stay in the team without the support of Uralkali – commented – I don’t think he should be ruled out on the basis of his nationality. More than anything else, it is not finance Russia. Uralkali is the main sponsor, but due to all the economic sanctions established against Russia, I don’t even think it’s possible to support a Formula 1 team anymore. In this sense, the problem is solved by itself “. In this regard, as stated by the team principal of the US manufacturer, Günther Steiner, the leaders of Haas will soon meet to find a solution to this problem, with their main sponsor – a company owned by Mazepin’s father, Dmitry – which could therefore be replaced by another partner. The promotion to title sponsor of Ionos 1 & 1, a German company specializing in web hosting, arrived as a dowry together with Mick Schumacher in 2021 just like Uralkali is not to be excluded.
