Duplass, who appears on shows like ‘The Mindy Project’, ‘Togetherness’ and ‘The Morning Show’ (Apple TV +), answered La República some questions via email.
Your character explores loss and pain. What are you looking for in a script?
I felt quite isolated during the pandemic, I lost a very close friend to me, the filmmaker Lynn Shelton. We felt quite grieved by that loss, mourning through a screen seemed like a very interesting concept to me because you are literally alone.
The film is based on an experience of yours. Is that so?
It started because I was taking Spanish classes at a high school in Guatemala, I called Natalie and asked her if she spoke Spanish. He said yes, and we decided to create this narrative between a teacher and a student, we also wanted to be able to record it in our homes.

You are also an actor and producer. In A click away, were you able to give some contribution or did you limit yourself only to being directed by Natalie Morales?
The movie was definitely a collaboration during the script writing process. However, when we started recording, You could tell that Natalie had quite an affinity with the process of directing the film per se. I consider her to be a very talented director and I wanted her to take charge of the camera angles and when we should or shouldn’t speak Spanish. Basically, we bring out the best in everyone.
Did you dominate the Spanish language before or was it that you learned it especially for the film?
I studied a bit in college and university, but my mistakes in the film were genuine, we naturally let them pass.

It’s a different movie than the audience might be used to, I want you guys to watch the movie with an open mind.
On the other hand, will there be a new season of ‘The Morning Show’?
For now I don’t know, but I hope so.
