Marius Borg, the son of the princess of Norway, is remanded in custody for two alleged rapes

The eldest son of the crown princess of Norway, Mette Marit,suspected of two rapes, was remanded in custody for a week, the Norwegian press reported on Wednesday night, two days after his arrest.

Marius Borg Høiby, 27, born from a relationship prior to his mother’s 2001 marriage to Haakon, was arrested on Monday night, suspected of rape. Police lawyer Andreas Kruszewski stated on Wednesday that a second suspicion arose of another rape during the investigation. This Tuesday it was known that agents could have found videos on Borg’s phone that could incriminate him.

After learning of his entry into preventive detention, the lawyer of Marius Borg HoibyØyvind Bratlien told NRK that his appeal against the court’s decision will be heard on Thursday. Bratlien said he was relieved that the judge had not followed the police’s request for a two-week detention order. “One week is better than two,” he wrote to NRK.

“This is a sexual act performed without consent with a woman unable to resist the act,” Kruszewski said on the sidelines of a hearing on his arrest. Investigators conducted a search and confiscated items at the suspect’s home. Borg Høiby had been arrested on August 4 after a late-night dispute at a woman’s apartment in Oslo and accused of causing bodily harm to the resident, with whom he was in a relationship.

Norwegian media reported that police found a knife stuck in one of the walls of the woman’s room. He was then arrested again in September for violating a protective order. According to police, when he was arrested on Monday, he was in a car with the alleged victim of the August incident.

“Marius faces serious accusations, which must be dealt with by the police and the justice system,” reacted the crown prince of the Norwegian throne, Haakon, on public television NRK, before the announcement. “I am convinced that they will do a good job,” he added from Jamaica, where he is traveling.

Høiby and his half-siblings – Princess Ingrid Alexandra, 20, and Prince Sverre Magnus, 18 – were raised together by Mette Marit and Haakon. Unlike them, he has no official role.
