A report by the European Union (EU) anti-fraud agency accuses French far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen and members of her party of misappropriating thousands of euros in EU funds. The document is being analyzed by French prosecutors, the Paris prosecutor confirmed this Sunday (17).

The existence of the report prepared by the European Anti-Fraud Office (Olaf) was made public on Saturday (16), through a publication by the investigative website Mediapart. The survey points to a deviation of more than 617 thousand euros (with Le Pen being personally responsible for almost 140 thousand euros of that amount), between 2004 and 2017, when the candidate was a member of the European Parliament.

According to the indictment, the amounts were applied to expenses with employees and events of Le Pen’s party. “The French will not be deceived by the attempts of the European Union and European institutions (…) to interfere in the presidential campaign and harm Marine Le Pen,” National Rally party president Jordan Bardella told Europe 1 radio, according to the report.
