He Open Seville Tennis Memorial Ricardo Villena has fulfilled the predictions this weekend by bringing the victory of the great favorite on the clay courts of the Nautical Club of the Andalusian capital. In fact, the IBP Tennis circuit tournament in its women’s 500 category scoring for the national ranking, which distributed 1,000 euros in prizes, concluded with the victory of the number 1, María José Luque from Córdobawho defeated Elena Morales from Lebrija, second favorite, in the grand final by a score of 6-2 and 6-1.
It took around an hour for the top contender for victory to win what is her second title in the Nautical Seville. And the thing is that the woman from Cordoba already managed to win the silver anniversary of the tournament, held in 2016 on the occasion of the first women’s edition of the Ricardo Villena Memorial, whose origin dates back to 1971 with the Cordiality Trophy and since 2005 it has paid tribute to its founder in this second stage.
At 28 years old, María José Luque, ranked third this season in the IBP Tennis ranking and 130th in the national ranking, has not had too many problems getting rid of her opponent in the final, the still junior Elena Morales, 166th in the ranking and with this finalist position he achieves his best result on the circuit, where he had previously only reached two rounds of the round of 16, apart from reaching the semis in an ITF. Of course, to win the Open Sevilla Memorial Ricardo Villena, the champion has had to work harder than in the three previous roundswhich started a day later due to the rain that fell on Wednesday in the Seville capital and among which they had only lost five games in total, three of them in the semifinals.
Luque accumulates with this victory three titles this season on the IBP Tennis circuit, which he dominated last season and in which this year he has previously won the Open de Linares (Jaén) and the Santo Voto Tournament of Puertollano (Ciudad Real). His next commitment will be the Spanish First Club Championship with Real Zaragoza.
The presentation of the competition trophies was attended, along with the president of the Yacht Club, Cayetano García de la Borbolla Vallejo; and the tournament director, Alfonso de Alarcón, from the general director of the Andalusian Tennis Federation, Juan Arispón; and Alfredo Álvarez, winner of the first edition of the Cordiality Trophy.
The 32nd Seville Tennis Open Memorial Ricardo Villena, which this year has dedicated its solidarity function to the Balia Foundation for Childrenhas been organized by the Club Náutico Sevilla and the Andalusian Tennis Federation with the collaboration of the Municipal Sports Institute of the Seville City Council, La Caixa Foundation, Active Business & Technology, La Torrijada, Royal Spanish Tennis Federation, IBP Tenis, Fundación Blanco Paris, Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA), FGO Cinematic, Medinaceli Catering, Coca-Cola, Cruzcampo, Hilton Garden Inn Sevilla, Grupo Portillo and Grupo Axvi.
