Marc Márquez has started with the impetus and authority that announce a dominant weekend in the Australian GP, one of those marked in red by the Cervera driver. On a first day with adverse weather conditions, rain and cold, the 93 won the Practice, the only session that could be held on Phillip Island, since the morning Free Practice was suspended due to water.
The multiple champion surpassed his brother Àlex, second, by one tenth, and left the candidates for the title two tenths behind, Jorge Martín, fourth after a fall, and Pecco Bagnaia, fifth.
rain and cold
The first free practice session had to be suspended due to the rain that did not stop; In the afternoon, Márquez set the pace
Bad weather is usually the background scenario for the Australian GP, in the southern spring. Rain occurred at the Phillip Island circuit and took over the free session (FP1); Two hours after the scheduled start, the race stewards decided to cancel it. The entire MotoGP day was, therefore, reduced to the afternoon Practice, in which Márquez went out for work.
The oldest of Cervera’s brothers dominated a good part of the hour of timed training, in which he only gave up just 10 minutes to Maverick Viñales and Jack Miller, the other two drivers who are best at Phillip Island.
Fall of Martin
The man from Madrid crashed at the beginning of Practice and finished fourth, ahead of Bagnaia
If the session was dominated with authority by Marc Márquez, with the proximity of his brother only at the end in a fast lap that left him one tenth behind, the two contenders for the title barely appeared at the head of the classification.
Jorge Martín started the day with a crash in turn 4 when only 2 minutes had passed into the session. A setback that put more pressure on the Madrid native, who was able to save the day with fourth place, two tenths behind Márquez. Although he was able to finish ahead of Pecco Bagnaia, by 46 thousandths of a difference.
They moved on to Q1, in addition to the two contenders for the title and the Márquez brothers, a solid Bezzecchi (third), Viñales, sixth, with good feelings on a track where he has won twice (2014 in Moto2 and 2018 in MotoGP). Binder was seventh, followed by the Ducati of Di Giannantonio and Morbidelli, and Àlex Rins closed the top 10 with the Yamaha, who sent his teammate Quartararo, 11th, to the repechage.
