Mara Venier: “I will have to undergo two more eye operations, not being able to see was a trauma”
Mara Venier talks about her difficult summer: “I had just started shooting Ferzan’s (Ozpetek) film, I had some eye problems, I couldn’t see well but I thought it was because my glasses were always dirty. I didn’t pay attention to it, I didn’t give it any weight, it was my mistake, if I had understood immediately that something was wrong I would have gained time”. And instead the diagnosis revealed “a sudden hemorrhage in the retina of my right eye that expanded more and more over the course of 5 days. One Monday evening while watching TV I realized that I could only see half the television, I closed my left eye and realized that I couldn’t see anything: everything was dark, everything was black. The next morning I was already in the operating room”, the words of the presenter of Domenica In on Corsera.
For her, a few days ago, the third operation: “I have two more to go. It’s a long thing, hoping to regain my sight. Now I can see something, but it’s still very blurry. I’m in good hands, but it was a trauma.” The causes are still a mystery: It’s a long thing, hoping to regain my sight. Now I can see something, but it’s still very blurry. I’m in good hands, but it was a trauma.”
But Mara Venier doesn’t stop: “My commitment to Ozpetek’s film helped me, from a psychological point of view working did me good, it pushed me to react and move forward. I had two operations and the next day I was on set. She suited the character, with glasses, always modest and without makeup”.
Domenica In, Mara Venier starts again on Rai1 with a new feature
The new edition of Domenica In is upon us, starting on September 15th on Rai1. “Working helps me distract myself. I pass the time between an editorial meeting and a check-up: I’m all TV and doctors. I try to see the glass half full, I’m not a child anymore and on the other hand I must have some ailments”.
“This year too I had decided not to do it anymore, but I can’t say no. This will really be the last one though.even though I’ve been saying it for six years. I swear: this is the last one, it’s a promise I make first of all to myself”, Mara Venier emphasizes.
This year announces some changes in the formula of Domenica In. There will no longer be interviews and the Rai1 program will veer towards different content, more in line with current events: “My strong point has always been my interviews, but now I’ve interviewed everyone there was to interview, even repeatedly. I’d like to get out of that formula, go back to the container with different topics, we have the idea of introducing a game, of having a discussion about current events – not about the news. I want to mix things up, take risks, I don’t think about the ratings, I’ve done what I had to do, I don’t have to prove anything anymore at my age: I’m still here, this year even a little blind: I want to have fun”.
