The DANA that has hit the east and south of Spain has left a tragic mark on the Valencian Community. Torrential rains in the province of Valencia have affected several municipalities and have left devastating images. The areas most affected by the floods have been the Plana de Utiel-Requena, L’Hoya de Buñol, L’Horta Sud and La Ribera, where the effects of the storm have caused material damage and human losses that are already close to one hundred.
The most affected towns in the Plana de Utiel-Requena region were Camporrobles, Fuenterrobles, Utiel and Requena. The last two have been the most affected, with rains that have caused the collapse of infrastructure, the flooding of many homes and the evacuation of families. In addition, in Requena a maximum rainfall of 272.6 millimeters was reached.
The municipalities of Llombai and Alfarp have also been affected by the rising flow of the Magro river before joining the Júcar river. Furthermore, this unleashed a wave of floods that impacted from Algemesí to Cullerawhere the accumulation of water in streets, homes, fields and roads left the population in a critical situation.
In the L’Horta Sud region, Torrent and Paiporta have been among the most punished municipalitieswith entire neighborhoods isolated, cars swept away and serious problems in local infrastructure. In the first, 300 people had to be evacuated to a pavilion set up by the city council. The mayor of Paiporta, Maribel Albalat, described a tragic scene, with “dozens of dead” and a “humanitarian emergency situation.”
In Alfafar, the storm left about a hundred people trapped in the cinemas of the MN4 shopping center. The intense rains of Chiva and Cheste, in the Hoya de Buñol regionreached up to 445 liters per square meter. The Ribera Alta has also recorded strong damage from Llombai to Cullera.
