Tulkarm/Tel Aviv – At least 16 people were killed in an attack by an Israeli warplane on a cafe in the northern West Bank town of Tulkarm, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah. The number of injured was initially unclear. It was the first airstrike of its kind in the West Bank in years.
According to Palestinian media reports, the attack targeted members of the local branch of the terrorist organization Islamic Jihad. Their leader Gaith Radwan is among the dead.
The Israeli army confirmed the attack. However, details would only be announced later.
According to Palestinian information, more than 700 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank, which has been occupied by Israel since 1967, since the Gaza war began almost a year ago. They died in fighting with the army, in attempted attacks on Israelis and by radical Israeli settlers. dpa
