Raúl Guevara and Cristina Moreno win the 10.5-kilometer test, in a race with 1,500 participants
Cartagena is this Sunday the epicenter of the regional middle distance, with the celebration of the most massive Half Marathon in its twenty-nine years of history. 1,500 runners participated in the first great race without restrictions that has been held in the municipality since the start of the pandemic, without the obligation to wear a mask or to leave in a staggered manner, except for the two hundred federated. The queen test of 21 kilometers was won by Manuel Marchena (UPCT Puerto Cartagena) and Laura Nicolás Moreno (Nogalte-Hogar Lumbreras), setting the times of 1.08.41 and 1.20.33, respectively. Both registered the minimum to go to the national championship, if they so wish.
The men’s podium was completed by Juan Antonio Zamora (1.11.47), from Runtritón Cartagena; and the pinatarense Francisco Mariano (1.12.23), of the Rajaos Runners. Laura Nicolás was also accompanied by Mercedes Velasco (1.23.59), from Runtritón Cartagena; and Esther Nicolás (1.28.47), from the Alcaraz Group. The test also had its classic route reduced to the distance of 10.5 kilometers, which ran to the Plaza de la Isla de Santa Lucía to the start and finish point at the Palacio de Deportes. This modality was won by Raúl Guevara (37.06), from Cuatro Santos Cartagena; and Cristina Moreno Robles (42.40), from Nogalte-Hogar Puerto.
1,500 runners participated in the Cartagena Half Marathon. Around 800 (about 200 federated) did it in the long distance test and around 700 in the 10.5 km. The Cartagena City Council formed an operation of 140 volunteers, 55 local police officers, 16 members of Civil Protection and half a dozen ambulances. The runners had at their disposal medical services as well as treatment stretchers for physiotherapy and podiatry in the Palacio de Deportes car park. There was no mishap of any kind, municipal sources confirmed to LA VERDAD, except for some occasional assistance at the finish line due to fatigue and heat.
