H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Presidential Court, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority launched the strategic plan of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority 2022-2025. The launch of the strategic plan was attended by Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Managing Director and Chairman of the Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi, Saeed Al Bahri Al Ameri, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, and the Executive Management of the Authority.
H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed that the new strategy aims to stimulate the agricultural sector and food production, consolidate the sector’s position as a major contributor to the economic diversification system, and increase its contribution to the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s GDP, in order to achieve the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State. May God protect him, and in implementation of the goals of the Abu Dhabi government in building a diversified economy based on knowledge, enabling sustainable agricultural development, ensuring abundance and safety of food, and enhancing the leadership of the UAE in this field.
His Highness praised the efforts of the management and employees of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, who have managed over the past years to achieve many achievements in support of the sustainability of the agricultural sector and the enhancement of food security in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
For his part, Saeed Al Bahri Al Ameri, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, said that the Authority’s strategy 2022-2025 reflects the wise leadership’s interest in the agricultural and food sector, and its keenness to provide all the ingredients for success to support the efforts of the Abu Dhabi government in building a diversified economy, explaining that the authority’s Comprehensive care, and continuous follow-up from His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, had a great impact on the achievements that have been made, which included reaching self-sufficiency at 84% of the 9 selected food commodities in 2021, adding that the new strategy reflects His Highness’s forward-looking vision in establishing a system Institutional work to enable sustainable agricultural development through innovation and investment and to enhance the competitiveness of the local product.
He added that the new strategy represents a roadmap for the future in order to establish sustainable food systems and address the challenges facing the sector, increase the agricultural sustainability rate to 66%, compared to 46% currently, and reduce the use of groundwater used in agriculture by about 500 million cubic meters between 2022 and 2025. .
The new strategy is based on effective partnership with institutions working in the field of agriculture and food production. To achieve these goals, the strategy identified several initiatives that ensure the consolidation of reliance on technology and artificial intelligence, and building the sector’s capabilities based on the principles of research and development, governance and excellence in service provision.
The strategy is characterized by diversity and integration to ensure the enhancement of food security based on the values of flexibility, professionalism and efficiency to enable sustainable agricultural development, modernization of farming systems, improve farm productivity, and encourage farmers and livestock breeders to adopt the application of best practices compatible with the principles of agricultural sustainability. It is noteworthy that the contribution of the agricultural sector of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to the gross domestic product increased to 13.7 billion dirhams in 2020 as a result of changing agricultural methods and providing distinguished services to farmers, while the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority continues its path of achievements that has been widely appreciated by international, regional and local institutions over the years. past years.
