Andrés Ramiro ‘Manga’ Escobar, former soccer player for Deportivo Cali, Atlético Nacional and Millonariosamong other teams, was sentenced in Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland, for the crime of sexual abuse, according to the ‘Morgunbladid’, one of the oldest newspapers in that country.
However, Manga spoke out this Saturday and made it clear in a video posted on social networks that he is not in prison, and that he hopes his situation will be resolved.
“The evidence that was omitted in my favor. Something very, very dirty. Tomorrow, when I have everything arranged, I will let you know. And another thing: I am not in prison, I am at home, in my apartment, waiting for everything to be resolved, good night”, said the footballer in a short Manga video.

According to the information published by ‘Morgunbladid’, the event for which Manga is judged would have occurred on September 19. According to the press report, Escobar, who has been playing for Leiknir Reykjavík since last year, would have abused a woman in his house.
Regarding the hearing in which the Colombian soccer player was sentenced, the media records that the man born in Puerto Tejada, Cauca, would have admitted having sexual relations with the complainant, but “denied having abused her.”
The striker’s lawyer, who came to play in France and the United States, would have appealed the ruling before a national court. In the meantime, the newspaper reported, Escobar remains in custody. This would be, in principle, until the first of September, the day on which the resolution of his appeal is expected.
