Maneuver, Patuelli (Abi) asks to rethink and extend the deadlines of the credit moratorium and other extraordinary anti Covid measures
Antonio Patuelli, president of the Italian Banking Association, asks the Italian and European authorities for “one urgent reflection“in the coming days and” not months ” to rethink and “extend the deadlines for the credit moratorium and other extraordinary anti-Covid measures, expected for the end of the year, in light of the resumption of the pandemic.
Speaking to Rome Investment Forum 2021, stressed that “the moratoriums end on 31 December based on forecasts of a pandemic that would be eradicated and, therefore, I ask the question whether it is logical that the moratoriums should end in a pandemic that gives new and strong concerns. The loans guaranteed by the state, after 1 January, should last a few months and decrease both in guarantee quotas and in the possibility of disbursing them “.
Therefore, “I think that a new reflection is needed because even in the face of a great operation of the Italian emergency structures, the situation is not resolved and in all of Europe it has at least one tailback “, continued Patuelli.” I see that the ECB, he concluded, is committed to this line because I see monetary policy decisions tuned and timely even in the concomitance of the pandemic and I think that the other measures of a financial nature in support of businesses must also have greater scope “.
Immediate the support from the president of Confcommercio Carlo Sangalli who affirmed: “The appeal made today by the President of ABI, Antonio Patuelli, to the European and Italian authorities about the urgency of starting a reflection on the extension of extraordinary finance measures, such as the moratorium on loans banking. We too have been reporting the need for some time in consideration of the profound and persistent impact of the Covid emergency: a particularly serious impact for the service sector area “.
Furthermore, Sangalli continued, “we believe that the extension of the moratorium should not penalize the creditworthiness class of companies and that, in a broader perspective, measures should be put in place to encourage a rescheduling of loans upon the termination of the suspensions envisaged by the moratorium “.
