Manchester United revealed On Monday (23.Sep.2024) plans were announced for the construction of a new stadium, with the aim of replacing Old Trafford. The new arena, with a capacity for 100,000 spectators, will become the largest stadium in England and the second largest in Europe.
The project involves an investment of up to 2 billion pounds (approximately R$ 14.5 billion) and promises to generate around 90 thousand jobs. The initiative is a collaboration with Foster + Partnersknown for the design of the new Wembley, and aims to transform the area around the stadium into a sports, residential, entertainment, business and educational district.
In a statement, the club highlighted the importance of the project for the community, mentioning Foster + Partners’ contribution to the regeneration of the area.
“It helped shape proposals on how best to use the land around the stadium”said Manchester United.
The consultancy Oxford Economics assessed the economic impact of the project and estimated a benefit of more than £7 billion (around R$51.8 billion) to the local economy.
