The crime was committed after the announcement of the PT member's victory in the 2022 elections; Public Ministry talks about political motivation
The Jury Court of Iporã, in Paraná, convicted on Tuesday (16 January 2024) a man accused of killing two people during an argument motivated by the announcement of the victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) as winner of the 2022 presidential elections.
Erick Hiromi Dias was sentenced to 51 years and 7 months in prison for crimes of qualified homicide. He is already in prison and will not be able to appeal his sentence while free.
The crime was committed in the Paraná municipality of Cafezal do Sul, on the night of October 30, 2022. The two victims were Lula supporters and were shot by Dias, who had a CAC (Collector, Shooter and Hunter) certificate.
According to the public ministrythe crime was politically motivated.
Request for forgiveness
During the trial, the accused confessed to the crimes and asked for forgiveness from the victims' families: “I know I made a mistake and that I deserve to be condemned. I remember very few things from that day. A while ago, I regretted not being able to take my life that day. I accept, because of all my regret, going through all the jail that I have to go through.”.
