Late yesterday afternoon an elderly man was rescued off one of Salobreña’s beaches by a trainee policeman and an off-duty fireman.
Several nearby beachgoers had seen a person floating face down in the water without moving and had raised the alarm.
Two young men lost no time in diving into the water, swimming out and bringing the victim back to the beach. The elderly man needed immediate attention because he had suffered cardiac arrest.
Fortunately, after carrying out CPR procedure they managed to bring him round. Then paramedics arrived to put him on oxygen before taking him to their waiting ambulance and rushing him to Hospital Santa Ana.
The trainee policeman is from Molvízar and is on practical training for the National Police at the main HQ for Eastern Andalucía. It is not clear which fire station the off-duty fireman is based, probably Motril.
