Zoo workers in Ghana, Africa, were shocked after the discovery they made while inspecting cages. The incident happened on August 29 at the Accra Zoo, one of the emblematic sites of the country’s capital.
The employees would have arrived in the morning and were preparing to clean the place where a family of lions lived. It was at that moment that they discovered human remains and immediately alerted the authorities.

According to investigations, the body would belong to a man who had entered the zoo at night. The person intended to steal one of the cubs that were in the cage.
When he arrived at the site, the guards would have been making their nightly rounds, so they did not notice. The animals were sleeping and the criminal would have managed to enter. This was reported by the government agency for the protection of wildlife in Ghana, which explained that the man threatened the safety and tranquility of the lions.
“The lions had cubs, so if you get too close, they might feel like their babies are being taken away. We ask the public to desist from doing something like this,” said Benito Owusu Bio, Deputy Minister for Land and Natural Resources of Ghana.
The authorities are handling the theory that the father of the family and alpha male lion would have been in charge of dismembering the visitor. The body remained in the corner of the cage, while the other animals defended their territory.

The thief
The only thing known so far is that the body belonged to a middle-aged male. The person died immediately due to the serious injuries he had on his body.
Zoo workers moved the family of lions to another cage for authorities to lift the carcass. Four animals lived in the cell: adult female and male with their two young puppies.

Now, the investigation is seeking to understand how the deceased managed to circumvent the security of the site and get to where the cats were.
According to the scientific magazine ‘Science Alert’, between 37 and 100 people die each year in the world due to attacks by lions. Tanzania has presented 563 deaths in the last 15 years due to these animals.
