in Malawi at least four people were killed and 12 injured when a vehicle belonging to the funeral procession of the country’s late vice president drove into a crowd, police say.
The accident happened in the village of Ntcheu in the central part of the country on Sunday evening. Thousands of people had gathered in the streets to catch a glimpse of the vice president who died in a plane crash last week Saulos Chiliman from the coffin.
A convoy of vehicles had been on his way to Chilima’s home village Nsipe. Chilima’s funeral is scheduled for Monday.
According to the eyewitness, the vehicle had tried to avoid the crowd, which was acting unpredictably, but had instead plunged into the people.
