Incumbent French President Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to participate in a televised debate along with the rest of the candidates in the first round of the presidential election scheduled for April 2022. This is evidenced by the results of a survey by the sociological service Ipsos, published on Saturday, February 6th.
61% of respondents said that Macron should participate in televised debates, while 17% are sure that there is no place for the head of state at such events. The remaining 22% said it didn’t matter much to them.
It is noted that the French leader has not yet officially nominated his candidacy. According to the survey, 74% of respondents have no doubt that he will formalize his candidacy. Of these, 51% believe that he should declare himself a candidate as soon as possible, and 23% agree with Macron’s previously voiced position that the sanitary situation and the situation in the international arena do not yet favor such a step.
The survey was conducted from 1 to 3 February among 1.5 thousand adult residents of France.
The same Ipsos poll showed that French President Emmanuel Macron maintains a strong chance of being re-elected for a second term in the April 2022 presidential election.
On January 7, a poll showed a high chance of incumbent President Emmanuel Macron for re-election. The closest rival of the current leader is the National Rally candidate Marine Le Pen. In third place is Republican candidate Valerie Pekress. Fourth place in the first round, according to Ipsos forecast, will go to far-right politician Eric Zemmour.
Two days earlier, Macron expressed his desire to again participate in the presidential elections in the country. According to him, at the moment the situation with the coronavirus pandemic is a priority issue for him as President of France, so he has not yet officially nominated his candidacy for a second term.
The presidential elections of the Fifth Republic will be held in the spring of 2022: the first round is scheduled for April 10, the second – for the 24th.
