The head of Mail.Ru Group Boris Dobrodeyev said in online broadcasts on the social network that the group of companies will change its name and will now develop under the VK brand. Several Mail.Ru services will also be renamed during the rebranding process. According to the top manager, VK is “a recognizable and most promising brand”, which is known by 100 percent of the Runet audience, and 67 percent use the social network every day.
According to Dobrodeev, among the main advantages of the VK brand are a large audience, popularity among young people and versatility. “A single brand of the company will highlight all the opportunities that our ecosystem provides: communication and games, education (from school to professional), delivery of medicines and groceries, taxi, car sharing and online shopping, all business opportunities – from small to large – and much other, “- said Dobrodeev.
The rebranding will affect all services of the holding. Some of them will receive a new name, and some will simply be linked with a single style. The only exception will be the subsidiary MY.GAMES, which produces games, since its activities are primarily focused on the foreign market. For example, Mail.Ru will unite its advertising products under the name VK Advertising, the Yula ad service will become VK Announcements, and Boom will become VK Music.
Earlier in the social network “VKontakte” several services have already changed the name: VK Taxi from Citymobil received the name “Taxi” VKontakte “”, the Worki service became “VK Work”. Dobrodeyev also announced the holding’s plans to launch the VK Video video platform and start selling smart devices under the VK Devices brand, which will connect to other devices or networks via wireless protocols and do some of the work interactively and autonomously.
The holding also finalized the VK logo. The monogram has become clearer and more geometric, and the blue background has become brighter and more noticeable. According to the group, in 2021, 28 million users logged in through VK ID outside the social network, and 20 million bank cards were registered in the VK Pay service.
Recently Mail.ru Group announced that the European office of MY.GAMES will be headed by Philip Soz, former top manager of the notorious giant Activision Blizzard. The company said the appointment of Soza is part of a strategy to build its business in Europe. MY.GAMES is actively cooperating with European developers and tech giants. According to Mail.ru Group, the extensive experience of the top manager will help the company “strengthen its international position.”
