Amini, 22, died after falling into a coma following her arrest by the morality police in Tehran last week, which sparked protests in Tehran, the Kurdistan Region, from which the late girl hails, and other regions.
On Monday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that “American attempts to violate Iran’s sovereignty against the backdrop of protests sparked by the death of a young woman in police custody will not go unanswered.”
“Washington always tries to destabilize Iran and its security, although it has not succeeded in that,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani told Noor News.
Following the incident, the police stated that Amini fell ill while she was waiting with others at the morals police station to which she was transferred, but her father said that his daughter did not suffer from health problems and that the bruises were visible on her feet, blaming the police for her death.
The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, announced the formation of a fact-finding committee into Amini’s death.
The Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, called Mahsa Amini’s family, expressing his condolences, and pledged to continue the investigation until the circumstances of the case were clarified.
