Qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix allowed Kevin Magnussen to continue his special relationship with the Marina Bay track, characterized by positive and memorable moments. Above all, the record for the fastest race lap that has endured since 2018, which is joined by the result among the top ten classified in today’s tests. With a time of 1: 51.573, Magnussen was in fact placed ninth ahead of Yuki Tsunoda’s AlphaTauri, managing to gain the first access to Q3 from this year’s Austrian GP.
A personal satisfaction so underlined by the 29-year-old from Roskilde, who would not have expected such a goal: “The situation has been good all weekend, but not that good – commented – the P9 is a little more than we expected, but it’s great because the qualifications in Singapore are very important. I am very happy to have achieved a good result here and the team has done an extraordinary job. My new race engineer, Mark Slademade a amazing work, returning after some time not racing on a car as a race engineer, and he was flawless. Finally, in Q3, I told the team that I didn’t know what we had to do and that we had to make a decision, and they made the right one. It was nice to be able to unload all the responsibilities on them and they did it ”.
Worse the performance of the other Haas home rider, Mick Schumacherclassified in 13th position albeit with some regret for the lack of access to Q3, disadvantaged above all by the switch to slick tires in the final moments of the intermediate test: “I think overall we have made a big step forward compared to yesterday and we had a good feeling in PL3 – has explained – for qualifications, unfortunately it dried a little more than I hoped for. On the last lap I overheated the tires in the second sector and maybe some of the tools I used were not suitable for the conditions, so the rears moved a lot and I didn’t do the time I wanted. I am happy with the sensations, the improvements and the work that the team and I have done. If it rains tomorrow there are certainly possibilities because our car is strong in the wet, so let’s do the rain dance and hopefully a few drops will arrive ”.
