Denmark is the second European team to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, after Germany. Atalantine Joakim Maehle signs the eighth victory out of 8 matches for the Scandinavians and sends the national team to the World Cup. England drew against Hungary, while Portugal performed in a manita against Luxembourg seasoned by Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat-trick. Two more goals for Dusan Vlahovic with Serbia, while Spain trembles: they are second in their group, because Sweden continues to win.
PORTUGAL 5-0 LUXEMBOURG
With an imbalance like this, it’s too easy. At the Estadio Algarve the Lusitanians’ match lasts less than twenty minutes, also because the boys from the Grand Duchy cause two penalties in the first quarter of an hour. The first is due to Sebastien Thill, the second is the fault of Anthony Moris: he changes little, however, Cristiano Ronaldo scores them both on 8 ‘and 13’. At 17 ‘, then, Bernardo Silva serves a good assist to another Portuguese from Manchester United with an Italian past, Bruno Fernandes and the 3-0 is a reality. Fernando Santos’ national team will therefore appear in Ireland in November with the chance to return to first place, Luxembourg limits the damage as much as possible, suffering “only” 4-0 in the 69th minute for Joao Palhinha’s header on corner and 5-0 in the final with CR7’s hat-trick.
The hosts are holding on very hard, launched by the usual lethal Vlahovic. The Fiorentina striker in fact also signs the victory over Azerbaijan and the Balkans thus continue to hope for direct qualification. At half an hour the young bomber transforms a delicate penalty, but the ghosts begin to be seen at Rajko Mitic when the guests equalize in the recovery of the first half with the stamp of Emin Makhmudov. The second half began with a post hit by Segej Milinkovic-Savic, but Vlahovic immediately found the double. The ball becomes lighter and in the 83rd minute there is room for the knockout blow, the result of another penalty: this time it is scored by Dusan Tadic.
Ranking: Serbia 17 points, Portugal 16, Luxembourg 6, Ireland 5 and Azerbaijan 1.
Next day (Thursday 11 November): Azerbaijan-Luxembourg, Ireland-Portugal.
The direct clash between the rear lights rewards the guests who find the first victory in these world qualifiers and now reaches the Balkans in fourth position. Georgia wins with only two shots on goal actually made: on 11 ‘Tornike Okriashvili takes credit for the 0-1 goal, while on 82’ Zurab Davitashvili stands as the hero of the team with the goal that counts three points. In between, a goal denied to Kosovo after a Var check and Kosovo’s momentary equalizer at the end of the first half, with a penalty converted by Lazio’s Vedat Muriqi.
SWEDEN 2-0 GREECE
The Scandinavian fairy tale continues and the first place is now a reality. In fact, taking advantage of Spain’s rest period – engaged in the Nations League – Jan Andersson’s national team completes the overtaking on the Iberians and comes to the last two days with two points of advantage. At the Friends Arena Sweden initially trembled with the crossbar hit by Vangelis Pavlidis, but in the 59th minute the tension dissolved between the hosts with the penalty converted by Emil Forsberg. In fact, ten minutes pass and Robin Olsen draws a nice cross for the jewel Alexander Isak, who bags to take the precious three points against Greece. Pantelis Chatzidiakos expelled in the final for a double yellow card.
Ranking: Sweden 15 points, Spain 13, Greece 9, Georgia and Kosovo 4.
P.rossima day(Thursday 11 November): Georgia v Sweden, Greece v Spain.
BULGARIA-NORTHERN IRELAND 2-1
The Northern Irish people are gone, they have collapsed. They harbored some hope for a few months but then melted when Switzerland kept pace with Italy. In fact, at Vasil Levski in Sofia the home team wins in a comeback, thus detaching the British in the standings. In reality in the first half it is the guests who have the best chances, passing ahead in the 35th minute with Conor Washington, for a goal first canceled for offside and later assigned with control in the Var room. In the second half, however, Bulgaria she unleashes, dragged by the attacking midfielder Todor Nedelev: the 28-year-old finds the low corner at 53 ‘and the seven at 63’, so the bad misstep against Lithuania is forgotten. Northern Ireland ko.

Next day (Friday 12 November): Northern Ireland-Lithuania, Italy-Switzerland.
The national team coached by Talgat Baysufinov continues to remain without wins, and in this penultimate outing in these qualifiers, the Scandinavians have a clear away victory and some hope of a comeback to second place. At the Astana Arena there is no story, Kazakhstan kicks only once on goal and resisted until the end of the first half. At 40 ‘Albin Granlund hits the crossbar for Finland, but at the end of the day the Norwich City striker, Teemu Pukki, allows his team-mates to face a break above a goal. In the recovery a goal of the number 10 is denied by the Var control, but in the second half it takes less than two minutes for the same center-forward to find the doubling: end credits well in advance with only the three of a kind touched, so the Finns are still third and hopeful.
Hopes for first place collapse for the Ukrainian national team, who stumbles into an uncomfortable internal draw against a direct competitor for second place. In Lviv the start of the match was dominated by the hosts and Andriy Yarmolenko took the lead in the quarter of an hour of play. In the long run, however, Bosnia-Herzegovina comes out of their shells and reacts, but only manages to equalize in the 77th minute, when Anel Ahmedhodzic finds a nice low corner after a splendid series of occasions on both sides. In search of the pass for the play-offs, it is tussle.
Ranking: France 12 points, Ukraine 9, Finland 8, Bosnia and Herzegovina 7 and Kazakhstan 3.
Next day (Saturday 13 November): Bosnia-Herzegovina-Finland, France-Kazakhstan.
With a sensational perfect path, the red and white with many players involved in Serie A qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar two days early. At the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, Kasper Hjulmand’s team in fact hits the eighth victory in as many matches, this time liquidating the difficult Austria. Man of the match is, needless to say, an “Italian”, that is the Atalantino Joakim Maehle in the 53rd minute, after the Alpine troops become dangerous in the first half with a shot from Martin Hinteregger.
FAROER ISLANDS-SCOTLAND 0-1
An immense, excessive effort to beat a team made up of amateur footballers. For Scotland it will be enough to win in Moldova in the next round to access the play-offs, but in the home of the Faroe Islands the British struggle for the whole game and find the three points only at 86 ‘, when Lyndon Dykes finds a winning deviation and removes the chestnuts from the fire for guests. There is even the grain of Var control, but luckily for the Scots the network is validated. Faroe Islands with a very high head.
The selection coached by Willibald Ruttensteiner does not give up his grip on second place and easily overcomes the internal match against the last in the standings. In reality, at the statistical level of occasions, the contenders are the same: it is a pity that Israel scores and Moldova does not. So shortly before the half hour the former Palermo Eran Zahavi confirms himself as a great striker at home on an assist from the talented Manor Solomon, while at 49 ‘the 2-0 was served by the other player of offensive quality of the squad, Munas Dabbur. The guests end the match in 10 for the double yellow card of Oleg Reabciuk with 5 ‘from the end and remain with only one point in the group. Ion Nicolaescu’s goal from the flag was useless in the 93rd minute.
Ranking: Denmark 24 points, Scotland 17, Israel 13, Austria 10, Faroe Islands 4 and Moldova 1.
Next day (Friday 12 November): Austria-Israel, Denmark-Faroe Islands, Moldova-Scotland.
Albanian World Cup hopes are likely to go badly, with a narrow defeat at home in a match suspended for a few minutes after Poland’s goal. After a tense match with few chances (only one for the guests in the first half), it was in the 77th minute that the Poles unlocked the score, with Mateusz Klich’s cross giving Karol Swiderski the chance to score at the corner. The referee, however, is forced to suspend the game due to the disputes with the throwing of bottles, but when you return to the field practically nothing happens. Poland now has second place in its own hands.
A lot of trouble, a bit of imprecision and the misstep was used for the national team of Gareth Southgate, who at Wembley ran into a chaotic first half without being able to complete the comeback in the second half. Obviously England created a lot, but Hungary took the lead in the 24th minute, with Roland Sallai converting a penalty awarded for a high leg by Luke Shaw near Loic Nego’s head. The hosts then play the charge, wounded in pride, and also 1-1 on a free kick, with John Stones coming out on the far post deflecting a free-kick from the right into the net. The second half is almost all a forcing of the English, but no one manages to pierce Peter Gulacsi and the three points do not arrive.
SAN MARINO-ANDORRA 0-3
There is a lot of romanticism on Tuesday evening in the Italian enclave, for a match that sees two national teams accustomed to the last places face off. Unfortunately for San Marino, however, it is the guests who win and leave the hosts last in the dry group of points. At 10 ‘Marc Pujol broke the deadlock, at 53’ the doubling brought the signature of Sergi Moreno, right on an assist from the number 7 of Andorra. A minute from the end there is then time for the ruthless trio, signed by Ricard Fernandez.
Ranking: England 20 points, Poland 17, Albania 15, Hungary 11, Andorra 6 and San Marino 0.
Next day (Friday 12 November): Andorra v Poland, England v Albania, Hungary v San Marino.
