The opposition in Venezuela has the difficult task of rallying around a candidacy if it wants to defeat Nicolás Maduro in the presidential elections on July 28.
There have been multiple obstacles, among them the disqualification of María Corina Machado, a move by Chavismo to avoid her defeat. The opposition appointed her replacement, Corina Yoris, an 80-year-old teacher, but Chavismo did not allow her application either..
EL TIEMPO speaks with Yoris to find out the perspective that the opposition has regarding the elections in which there are apparently only two “opposition” candidates, Manuel Rosales, whom Machado apparently has no regard for, and, on the other hand, Edmundo González , who was the only candidate who could register the Democratic Unity Roundtable, but who until now has stayed away from the public spotlight.
