The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, unknown to the United States, said this Saturday that he was willing to “Turn the page” and engage in “dialogue” with the new Joe Biden administration to reestablish diplomatic relations, broken two years ago.
“We are ready to walk a new path of relations with the Joe Biden government on the basis of mutual respect, dialogue, communication and understanding“said Maduro.
Venezuela “is willing to turn the page and to build new paths of respect, dialogue and diplomatic communication with the new government of the United States, “added the president in a speech to supporters from a balcony of the Miraflores presidential palace, in downtown Caracas.

“Two years ago I had to react with strength and dignity and, from this same balcony, I proceeded as head of state to break all political and diplomatic relations with the United States government at that time,” Maduro continued. “Trump is gone!“, he celebrated.
However, Antony blinken, nominated by Biden as the new secretary of state, has said that the White House will continue to recognize opposition leader Juan Guaidó as interim president, and once again qualified Maduro as a “Brutal dictator”.
Guaidó defends the continuity of the old opposition Parliament despite the parliamentary elections that the Chavista regime held on December 6 last – without the opposition – and that modified the makeup of the National Assembly.
Some analysts believe that the Biden government will be more moderate than its predecessor and will advocate for international mediation for a gradual transition of power in Venezuela, but would never recognize Maduro.
