The act in which the title was awarded, broadcast by the state channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), took place at the Miraflores Palace in Caracas, headquarters of the Executive, in the company of local and international athletes.
The meeting was attended by the Venezuelan boxer Roger “El Niño” Gutiérrez, decorated by Maduro in January 2021 with the Francisco de Miranda Order in his first class, after the athlete stripped Nicaraguan René Alvarado of the WBA super featherweight title in a fight held last year
The meeting at the Government headquarters was also attended by the deputy director of the WBA World Championships, Julio Alberto Thyme, and Gutiérrez’s trainer, Jorge Fernández.
Mendoza’s management in front of the WBA began in 2015, when he took over from his father -died in 2016-, of the same name, who was president of the organization from 1982 until he was relieved by his son, known as “Gilbertico”.
