Through a televised address, President Emmanuel Macron announced new measures to face the expansion of the Delta variant of Covid-19, including the mandatory vaccination of medical personnel and the extension of the health pass to daily activities.
Following the expansion of the Delta variant in France, President Emmanuel Macron announced that medical personnel and citizens who have contact with people whom he called “fragile” must be vaccinated on a mandatory basis. Since September 15, it is expected that there will be controls and sanctions for those who fail to comply with the mandate.
In this regard, he also said that for the moment he will trust the autonomy of the citizens in order to receive the injection, but that the possibility of a mandatory vaccination for the rest remains open.
The rebound in cases due to the Delta variant worries the French president, for which he stated that “if we do not act now, the cases of contagion and hospital occupancy will increase.”
In addition, he announced more actions to control the spread of the virus, including the expansion of the health pass as a requirement to access establishments open to the public such as restaurants, cafes, cultural spaces and sports establishments since August.
The pass that certifies that a person received the vaccine was already valid for places with a capacity for more than 1,000 people such as stadiums, as well as places such as discos and bars with a capacity of 50 people.
