Giuseppe Conte accepts the truce. The former premier, according to what emerges from sources very close to him, approved the mediation attempt put in place by Beppe Grillo to relaunch the Five Star Movement. The guarantor has in fact ordered the formation of a committee of sthese people who will have to deal with changes to the statute, the charter of values and the code of ethics.
But Conte’s is not an unconditional yes: the lawyer in fact asked that the fundamental principles on which he had already expressed himself in recent days remain firm. In short, Conte is willing to get closer to Grillo and the Movement, but without giving in to what he believes to be the fundamental elements for re-founding the Movement itself, and without any concession to the idea of a “diarchy” with the founder.
The situation within the M5s was partially unlocked after a dinner between Grillo, Di Maio and Fico in Marina di Bibbona, which gave way to the subsequent mediation of the guarantor, who suspended the vote of the board, opening instead to the committee of the seven to rewrite the statute.
It remains to be seen if, beyond the tactics, the distances that have emerged in recent days between Grillo himself and Conte as to the very nature of the Five Star Movement will actually be bridged, and if Grillo will agree to give up a substantial part of his power to entrust it. to the former prime minister, who on roles, functions and legitimacy to make decisions does not seem to want to go back from his initial positions.
