The match of the 14th round of the French Football Championship between Lyon and Marseille on Sunday, November 21, was interrupted at the very beginning of the first half due to the behavior of the fans. It is reported by “Sport-Express“.
The meeting took place in Lyon. Local fans did not let the Marseille players play the set by throwing various objects from the stands, including bottles. At the moment when the guests’ midfielder Dimitri Payet was about to enter the ball into the game from a corner, a bottle flew from the stands, hitting the player right in the head. The chief referee of the match, Ruddy Bucke, decided to take the teams off the field.
The injured player received medical attention.
This is not the first time that French fans have caused the game to be stopped. So, on August 8, in the first round of the current championship of France, the match between Montpellier and Marseille was interrupted for the same reason. The teams returned to the field a few minutes later and finished the meeting. Then the “Provençals” won with a score of 3: 2.
On August 22, in the third round, in the match between Nice and Marseille, at the 75th minute, Nice fans threw a plastic bottle at the same Payette. The footballer threw her back to the podium, after which the fans broke into the field. Both teams went to the under-stands, but when the referee called everyone on the field after a pause, the Marseille players refused to continue the game. The match was replayed on October 27 on a neutral pitch and ended with a score of 1: 1.
On September 3, England’s footballers in Budapest were pelted with plastic cups during a match against the Hungarians in the 2022 World Cup qualifier. Fans didn’t like the British kneeling to support the BLM movement ahead of the competition. However, the English footballers calmly raised the disposable dishes and pretended to drink from them.
