“The readjustment, regardless of anything, we will do every year”, said the PT about a possible new government
Former president and presidential candidate Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (EN) said this Wednesday (17.Aug.2022) that it is studying raising the income tax exemption range to R$5,000. Today, those who receive up to R$1,903.98 are exempt from the tribute.
“I keep thinking about R$5,000. Until then, people would not have to pay income tax”declared the PT.
“We’re going to have to discuss it, because when you do that, you’re going to have to stop raising a huge amount of money and you’re going to have to say which other source you’re going to draw from”said the candidate.
“When I start taking office, I will discuss the amount of people that we will exempt from the Income Tax”declared Lula.
“Now the readjustment [da tabela], regardless of anything, we will do it every year. Now, if everything is readjusted in this country, why can’t the Income Tax table be readjusted for those who live on salary?”said the former president.
Lula made the statements in an interview with Rádio Super, from Belo Horizonte. On Thursday (Aug. 18), he will speak at a rally in Praça da Estação, in the capital of Minas Gerais. It will be the 1st major street act of the PT campaign.
The current President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Lula’s main opponent in the election, promised in his government plan to zero the Income Tax for those who earn up to 5 minimum wages. Today, this amount would be equivalent to R$ 6,060
In 2018, when he was elected to the Planalto Palace, Bolsonaro also talked about raising the income tax exemption range to 5 minimum wages.
Lula criticized the current president. “Our opponent said that, but he didn’t comply because he doesn’t comply with anything”declared the PT.
The PT advocated that there be fewer taxes on production. He also advocated more inheritance taxes and taxation of profits.
“We will have to sit at the table, and I will promote this discussion, so that we can try to see if we make a policy for a tax reform proposal”declared Lula.
In July, PT said in a speech to representatives of the transport sector that tax reform was very complex and that it could be more effective to discuss taxes point by point.
