Candidate for the Presidency, the PT said that job creation will be an “obsession” and promised tax reform
Former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Tuesday (23.Aug.2022) that, if elected, he will announce the resumption of Minha Casa Minha Vida in January 2023. The PT also promised that he will propose a major infrastructure program for the country, with the resumption of paralyzed works and investment in new ventures.
Candidate for a 3rd term as President of the Republic, Lula stated that the State needs “surround itself with economic possibilities and use its banks to help, either with the Union Budget or with financing, to ensure that houses can be built”.
PT met with civil construction businessmen to discuss the resumption of the Minha Casa Minha Vida program in São Paulo.
Lula was accompanied by ex-governor Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), deputy on the ticket, and ex-minister Aloízio Mercadante, responsible for drawing up the PT government program.
The entrepreneurs who attended the meeting were:
- José Carlos Martins, president of CBIC (Brazilian Chamber of the Construction Industry);
- Yorki Estefan, vice president of Sinduscon-SP;
- Rodrigo Luna, president of Secovi-SP;
- Romeu Chap Chap, former president of Secovi-SP;
- José Romeu Ferraz Neto – president of Fiabci – Brazil International Real Estate Federation.
The group delivered a message to the former president with the objective of contributing to the development of the civil construction and housing sector in the country. The document is also being delivered to the other candidates at the Planalto Palace.
Lula reaffirmed that he will resume paralyzed works, especially those that were designed in PAC (Growth Acceleration Program) 1 and 2.
The PAC was launched in 2007, at the beginning of Lula’s 2nd term. The program encompassed public policies for the next 4 years, with the forecast of investment in infrastructure in areas such as sanitation, housing, transport, energy, water resources and others. PAC 2 was launched under Dilma Rousseff (PT), Lula’s successor.
“More important is for you to know, and you know that there are many works paralyzed after the PAC ceased to be fed as a policy conceived by the government. We will resume all the works that can be resumed”said.
The PT defended that the measure will be essential to also resume the generation of jobs, which he said will be his “obsession”. “When a citizen has a job and a salary, he becomes a first-class citizen. He ceases to be dependent on the State and starts to consume the things he himself produces”said.
The PT also said he did not have “fear of government debt” and defended the strategy as a way to increase the investment capacity of the government.
“Cash money is not good, good money is money in work, money in investment, yielding work, salary and development”said.
Lula again promised that he will hold a meeting in the first weeks of his eventual new government with all 27 governors of the country to discuss the priorities of each state to resume the federative pact.
“It is important to pass on to society the idea that governors and the President of the Republic will not be enemies, they will be partners in the construction of what interests the Brazilian people. I want each governor to nominate the most important projects for their states”said.
Lula also promised once again to discuss a new tax policy for the country to relieve investments and guarantee “more justice in the country’s income tax policy”. The PT did not detail what he intends to change, but in previous speeches, he signaled that he is considering raising the IR exemption range to R$5,000. Today, those who receive up to R$ 1,903.98 are exempt from the tax.
