President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko proposed to hear reports and hold a summit of the Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in November in Yerevan in person. He voiced such a proposal at an extraordinary session of the CSTO, which was held on October 28.
“In November of this year, that is, literally in a month, we will meet not on TV, as now, but in Yerevan within the framework of the CSTO. Why can’t we listen to reports and reports, how will events develop, first of all, taking into account the Armenia-Azerbaijan-Russia meeting? – quotes Lukashenka’s words Belta.
He noted that Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia need to once again sit down at the negotiating table and analyze the situation during this period.
“And report to us at the CSTO meeting in person. And then we will make a decision,” the Belarusian leader stressed.
Speaking at the same meeting, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Yerevan expects the CSTO to give a political assessment of Azerbaijan’s actions on the border with Armenia.
On the same day, Pashinyan announced that Armenia agrees to establish interstate relations with Azerbaijan according to the principles proposed by Russia, and for its part is ready to confirm this at a meeting of the leaders of the three countries in Sochi.
On October 26, the Armenian Prime Minister announced that he plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev at the invitation of the Russian President and hold a trilateral meeting in Sochi on October 31. Pashinyan specified that he plans to discuss issues of security and stability in Nagorno-Karabakh with Putin and Aliyev.
Relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan are aggravated against the backdrop of disputing the ownership of Nagorno-Karabakh, which in 1988 announced its secession from the Azerbaijan SSR. During the military conflict of 1992-1994, Baku lost control over Karabakh.
In September 2020, Baku took control of a number of settlements during military operations. In November of the same year, Armenia and Azerbaijan, with the participation of Moscow, signed an agreement on the cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh.
