President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko revealed details of the departure of the leader of the Belarusian opposition Svetlana Tikhanovskaya to Lithuania in August 2020. He spoke about this during a meeting with officials on topical issues of the socio-political situation, writes BELTA.
Lukashenko denied the claim that the Belarusian authorities forced Tikhanovskaya to leave the country. “I read this in my report today that she was forced to leave Belarus and that they threatened that almost children would be arrested and something else. Listen, children are always prohibitive for me, and you know that. Children should not bear such a responsibility for their parents that I will go to Lithuania and grab the children. Well, if you took them there, protect them, ”the president stressed.
The head of the republic also said that the oppositionist personally applied to the head of the operational-analytical center under the President of Belarus Andrei Pavlyuchenko for permission to leave the country and financial assistance. According to Lukashenko, Tikhanovskaya was given 15 thousand dollars (more than one million rubles) and allowed to leave for Lithuania. “And today she says that she was threatened, that her children were taken away from her and so on. Bastard! ” – concluded the Belarusian president.
Earlier, Tikhanovskaya said that she regrets leaving Belarus after the presidential elections in August 2020. In her opinion, this was a mistake, which in part led the protesters to failure. At the same time, she noted that by that time the Belarusians themselves were not ready for mass actions and did not have any coordination structures.
