If the US leadership calls Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and says to stop hostilities, they will stop. This was stated by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
“In order to end the war today, one signal is needed from the UN, America, the West to the Ukrainian leadership. A strong signal to end this war. And by the evening the war will end… If the Americans call the phone that Zelensky has on his desk and say: “By the evening we must end the war by signing an agreement with Russia,” the war will end by the evening,” he said in an interview with the Japanese television company TBS. posted on March 19 on the YouTube channel of the Belarusian TV News Agency.
According to the head of state, it is more likely that the US president will not call, because what is happening in Europe is beneficial for America. As the head of state explained, the fighting will end quickly if “America takes a position to establish peace on Ukrainian soil.”
“But they don’t need this position now, it’s not in their interests,” he said.
Zelensky now has little control over the processes in Ukraine, Lukashenka noted.
“I can only express my point of view regarding … Zelensky now. I believe that he manages the processes in Ukraine a little. Even before the conflict, he did not delve into these processes much, probably due to his preparedness or unpreparedness, ”said the President of Belarus.
The situation in Ukraine, in his opinion, is controlled by representatives of the West and the United States, who are in Kyiv.
“Now – this is my conviction, maybe I’m wrong – there, directly from Kyiv, certain people already control the situation, primarily at the front, in the war. Zelensky is not in charge of the whole process, and there are not even advisers advising the military on how to behave – there, representatives of the West and the United States completely took control of the military operation, countering Russia. In addition to the fact that they officially supply the most modern weapons there, I think they are in charge of a completely military resistance, a military process in Ukraine,” the Belarusian leader said.
According to the head of state, Zelensky has “roughly speaking, two phones on his desk”: a satellite connection with US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Johnson.
Lukashenko also expressed confidence that it is beneficial for the West to drown Minsk and Moscow in the conflict in Ukraine. “What is happening now in Ukraine is beneficial to America and its allies. It is beneficial to drown both Belarus and Russia in this conflict, so that we are immersed in the conflict, and we were not up to Japan, not to Syria, not to China, not to Africa and Venezuela,” the president said.
In his opinion, the West will do everything to restrain Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky if he wants to act in a conflict with Russia differently than the West wants. “They will do everything to make things worse for Russia and for us. This is my opinion based on the analysis of the situation,” Lukashenka stressed.
Earlier in the day, the president announced that Russia was proposing Ukraine to become like Belarus. He explained that Ukraine should not have nuclear weapons and threaten the Russian Federation.
Before that, on March 4, Lukashenka said that the West was trying to draw Belarus into the events in Ukraine in order to “bare” the country’s borders.
Since 2014, the Ukrainian authorities have been conducting a military operation against the inhabitants of Donbass, who refused to recognize the results of the coup d’état and the new government in Ukraine.
On February 17, 2022, the situation in the region escalated. The Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) announced a general mobilization, the evacuation of civilians to Russia and asked for help.
On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the DPR and LPR, as well as agreements that, among other things, provide for the provision of military assistance to each other.
On February 24, Putin announced the launch of a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. Western countries that disagreed with its implementation began to introduce new anti-Russian sanctions.
