Acting President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko believes that the issue of holding new presidential elections has been finally resolved. He stated this during a meeting with the country’s political activists, BelTA informs.
“We held the elections and got the result. That’s the point. Probably enough to disturb the society. The next presidential elections are according to the Constitution. As we decide, it will be so, ”he said.
Lukashenka put before the political elite of the country another question concerning the development of the draft of the new Constitution of the country. The President stressed that the leadership of the republic now needs to form a common opinion on how the state system will change.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin during Lukashenka’s visit said that the idea of reforming the main law of Belarus seemed to him “logical and timely”. At the same time, the Russian leader stressed that the Belarusians should independently deal with the political crisis and come to an agreement between supporters and opponents of the current government.
Later, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow considers Lukashenko the legitimate president of Belarus. At the same time, according to him, the issuance of a loan to Minsk in the amount of $ 1.5 billion and other preferences cannot be called assistance to the incumbent head of state personally, it turns out to be a neighboring “fraternal” country.
Lukashenka’s opponents have been protesting for the sixth week in a row, since election day on August 9. They believe that the incumbent head of state received the result of over 80 percent of the votes with the help of large-scale falsifications, and demand that the elections be held again. In addition, the disaffected insist on the release of all who were arrested because of their political position, as well as the prosecution of the security officials involved in the brutal dispersal of the first rallies and the abuse of prisoners. Lukashenko believes that the protests were paid for and organized by the West, and the security forces behaved correctly, as they allegedly repulsed the aggression.
